BTi · Portfolio Management

Build, analyse, optimise and monitor every portfolio.

With analytical depth that makes a difference. BTi brings the entire portfolio management process together in one professional suite: from risk profiles and guided portfolio construction to quantitative analysis and ongoing monitoring of all portfolios.

For financial advisers and portfolio managers who want to attend to every detail, evaluate their decisions and devote more time to what matters.

01 · Risk profiles

DEFINE THE RULES BEFORE BUILDING THE PORTFOLIO

Turn each portfolio's rules and limits into verifiable parameters you can consult at any time.

Every client is different. Their limits should be too.

Create customised profiles, assign them to portfolios and use them both during construction and for subsequent checks. You can create, edit, duplicate or delete them: you define the thresholds rather than accept standard parameters imposed by the platform.

Individual holding concentration

Set the maximum permitted weight of a single position.

Geographic and currency exposure

Set limits for individual geographic regions and currencies.

Volatility and drawdown

Establish maximum volatility and peak-to-trough loss thresholds.

Rebalancing bands

Specify how far each position may deviate from its target weight.

Asset-class allocation

Set minimum and maximum ranges for equities, bonds, money-market instruments, cash and other categories.

Assignable profiles

Apply and reuse profiles across portfolios; their constraints become verifiable criteria for ongoing monitoring.

02 · Portfolio Builder

FROM ASSET CLASSES TO INDIVIDUAL HOLDINGS, WITHOUT LOSING CONTROL

Why it matters. Build each portfolio with control over its structure, from overall allocation to underlying exposures and individual instruments, without losing sight of client constraints.

Guided construction, professional precision.

Design your portfolio through a structured workflow: define allocation, specify exposures, select securities and check the final composition before moving on to analysis.

1. Asset allocation

Allocate capital across equities, bonds, money-market instruments, commodities and cash, subject to any limits in the risk profile.

2. Equity exposures

Distinguish global, US, European, emerging-market, Japanese, Asia-Pacific and other exposures, rather than using a single undifferentiated equity allocation.

3. Bond exposures

Specify euro-area or global government bonds, US Treasuries, corporate, high-yield, aggregate, inflation-linked, convertible and defined-maturity exposures.

4. Commodities and money markets

Allocate exposure across gold, other precious metals, diversified or individual commodities and money-market instruments.

5. Selecting instruments

Screen UCITS ETFs, individual equities and bonds by category, region, currency, issuer, distribution policy, TER and relevant characteristics. Where available, consider quantitative volatility and expected-return measures too.

6. Checks and further analysis

Check that weights are consistent and that overlapping exposures, such as a global ETF alongside a regional ETF, do not create unintended concentrations. Save the portfolio for more detailed analysis.

03 · Optimisation

DON'T STOP AT THE FIRST ALLOCATION

Why it matters. Move from theoretical comparisons towards a practical reallocation of portfolio weights, seeking a more rational, efficient structure aligned with the client's objectives.

Compare alternatives, not hunches.

The same instruments can produce different risk/return profiles depending on their weights. BTi plots the combinations considered by the model on the efficient frontier and lets you select an allocation to investigate further.

Efficient frontier

View combinations considered efficient under the available data and assumptions.

Minimum Variance

Identify the portfolio structure that minimises volatility under the chosen model.

Maximum Sharpe

Examine the allocation that maximises the ratio of expected excess return to risk.

Intermediate portfolios

Compare alternative allocations along the frontier and their risk/return trade-offs.

Original versus optimised weights

See how each holding's weight changes between the starting portfolio and alternative allocations.

Indicative rebalancing plan

From current weights to target weights: suggested purchases or sales, amounts and, where calculable, indicative quantities. It does not execute orders or automatically account for costs, taxes or minimum trading lots.

04 · Risk analysis

SEE WHAT PORTFOLIO WEIGHTS ALONE CANNOT REVEAL

Why it matters. Examine every aspect of portfolio construction, distinguishing apparent diversification from the risk actually taken.

Real portfolio risk deserves more than a single percentage.

BTi combines complementary analyses to understand concentrations, exposures and relationships between holdings. Each perspective answers a different question and contributes to a more accurate overall picture.

Stress testing

Simulate the estimated impact of adverse shocks, including a sharp equity market decline and an inflationary scenario affecting equities and bonds.

Sensitivity factors

Examine common drivers that may influence the behaviour of instruments and the portfolio.

Look-through exposure

Analyse asset classes, sectors, geographies, currencies and other available dimensions. Where ETF holdings data is available, BTi examines the underlying securities to reconstruct aggregate exposure rather than stopping at the fund-level allocation.

Contribution to risk

Identify which instruments contribute most to overall volatility, even when their portfolio weights are relatively small.

Contribution to expected return

Distinguish capital weights from the estimated contribution of each position to portfolio returns.

CAPM

Analyse beta, systematic risk and required return using the Capital Asset Pricing Model.

05 · ETF Overlap

TEN ETFs DO NOT NECESSARILY MEAN TEN DIFFERENT EXPOSURES

Why it matters. Understand the securities you hold indirectly through ETFs, their estimated weights and where unintended overexposures may arise. Accuracy depends on the availability and recency of holdings data.

Do you really know which securities you own indirectly?

Different ETFs may hold the same stocks: the number of funds alone therefore does not describe diversification. Overlap analysis lets you compare available holdings and recognise hidden concentrations.

Look-through ETF holdings

Where holdings data is available, BTi reconstructs indirect exposure to individual securities, weighted by each ETF's allocation within the portfolio.

Shared holdings

Identify companies held by multiple ETFs and assess their combined weight.

Aggregate exposures

See how much effective exposure to an individual stock comes from your ETFs, as if you held it indirectly through a single consolidated portfolio.

Unwanted overlap

Recognise when adding an ETF increases existing concentrations instead of improving diversification.

06 · Benchmark Setup

THE RIGHT BENCHMARK CHANGES HOW YOU INTERPRET RESULTS

Why it matters. Assess performance and risk against a benchmark that better reflects the strategy actually adopted.

Don't compare every strategy with the same index.

Choose a comparison appropriate to the portfolio's structure. BTi offers several benchmarks and lets you construct a synthetic benchmark with custom components and weights.

Market indices

Compare the portfolio with an index consistent with its exposure.

Sector benchmarks

Use benchmarks linked to the sectors relevant to the strategy.

Comparable portfolios

Assess differences relative to a reference portfolio allocation.

Custom synthetic benchmark

Combine multiple components with your chosen weights to represent a multi-asset allocation.

Benchmark comparisons

Use the chosen benchmark to assess performance and relative characteristics in modules that support it.

Informed selection

Avoid misleading conclusions drawn from comparisons with inappropriate benchmarks.

07 · Charts, alerts and metrics

ASSESS THE PORTFOLIO AS A FINANCIAL INSTRUMENT

Why it matters. Document investment decisions precisely using a broad set of measures, rather than assuming that attractive total returns necessarily imply satisfactory risk characteristics.

Final returns are not enough: the journey matters.

BTi creates synthetic representations of portfolio performance by combining the data and weights of its holdings. This allows you to track the portfolio's evolution like a listed instrument, within the limits of available data frequency and history.

Synthetic portfolio chart

Reconstruction and updating of the portfolio's history using available holding prices and portfolio composition.

Price-level alerts

Set alerts on the synthetic portfolio value and, where supported, Bollinger Bands. Alerts are checked while the platform is in use; server-side notifications are not guaranteed when the browser is closed.

Historical Comparison

Historical comparison with the benchmark, including returns, volatility and behavioural differences and, where calculable, alpha.

Quantitative metrics

Examine beta, correlation, R², Value at Risk, returns and volatility in the panels where those metrics and sufficient statistical coverage are available.

Rolling Analysis

Assess annualised returns (CAGR), volatility and risk required per unit of return across rolling windows.

Interpreting change over time

See whether portfolio characteristics persist or change across different periods.

08 · Wealth projections

MONTE CARLO: EXPLORE THE FUTURE UNDER PORTFOLIO ASSUMPTIONS

Why it matters. Complement portfolio construction with scenario-based financial planning to support discussions of long-term needs and objectives without presenting simulations as promises.

Explore potential wealth trajectories, not certainties.

BTi uses statistical simulations to assess how wealth might evolve under assumptions about returns, risk, investment horizon and the client's planned financial requirements.

Time horizon

Set the number of years over which to examine potential capital growth.

Regular contributions

Include additional contributions at the selected amounts and intervals.

Scheduled withdrawals

Assess the impact of regular withdrawals on the projected wealth trajectory.

Inflation

Consider purchasing power and real values under the available assumptions.

Statistical scenarios

Examine adverse, central and favourable outcomes consistent with the simulations performed.

Wealth sustainability

Assess how withdrawals affect long-term wealth and the likelihood of meeting financial objectives.

09 · Portfolio Monitoring

A COMPLETE, UP-TO-DATE VIEW OF CLIENT ASSETS

Understand your clients' overall financial positions and follow the daily evolution of their portfolios to support better-informed assessments and recommendations.

Simply upload an Excel file containing the client's holdings: BTi automatically reconstructs the portfolio, allowing you to analyse its composition, asset allocation, exposures, performance and risk.

Each day, as new market prices become available, the platform updates holdings valuations and total portfolio value, making changes in client wealth easy to review.

Subsequent purchases, sales, contributions and withdrawals are entered by the adviser directly into BTi to keep the reconstructed portfolio current.

Evaluate potential interventions with an understanding of the client's overall financial position, existing exposures and actual risks. Your recommendations can then be informed by a detailed view of the assets you oversee rather than by the isolated analysis of a single instrument.

Client portfolio reconstruction

BTi reconstructs holdings from an Excel file and updates valuations daily using new market prices.

Initial Excel import

Start from an existing portfolio rather than entering every holding manually.

Transaction log

Update the reconstructed account with purchases, sales, contributions and withdrawals, including supported income components such as dividends and coupons.

Performance Monitoring

Track portfolio development and compare performance with an appropriate benchmark.

Limit monitoring

Check drawdown, volatility, concentration by instrument, asset class, geography and currency, and deviations from target weights against active thresholds.

Allocation Monitor and changes

Compare target and current allocation, and review what has changed since the previous check.

10 · Portfolio Overview

ALL CLIENT PORTFOLIOS IN ONE SCREEN

Why it matters. An adviser can quickly identify portfolios requiring further investigation without opening every client account; a portfolio manager can compare strategies and risks in a unified view.

Less time finding problems. More time managing portfolios.

When monitoring many portfolios, opening each one to check every parameter takes time. BTi's Portfolio Overview brings key information into a table and flags situations that warrant attention.

Multi-portfolio overview

Review names, associated accounts, assets, risk profiles, allocation and exposures across portfolios.

Comparable performance

Assess returns for the current month, 1, 3, 6 and 12 months, year to date and longer horizons where sufficient history is available.

Risk indicators

Monitor current and maximum drawdown, volatility and Sharpe ratio, together with overall limit status.

Allocation drift

Highlight portfolios that move outside their specified rebalancing bands.

Concentrations and thresholds

Identify breaches of limits for individual instruments, asset classes, geographies, currencies and drawdown, and volatility where configured.

Configurable view

Customise columns to focus on the indicators relevant to your monitoring process.

11 · Professional reports

PRESENTATION-READY ANALYSIS, WITH YOUR OWN BRANDING

Why it matters. Save the time spent preparing much of your presentation material manually and devote more attention to portfolio decisions and client requirements.

More value for clients, less time spent on presentations.

Financial work should focus on analysis rather than repetitive document formatting. BTi includes PDF export tools that let you present results in a professional format.

PDF reports

Export supported analyses to documents suitable for review and presentation.

Professional branding

Customise the cover with your name or firm's name and logo.

Firm contact details

Add your contact information and website if you wish.

Reusable materials

Keep documents consistent without rebuilding every presentation from scratch.

12 · Backup and privacy

YOUR PORTFOLIO DATA REMAINS UNDER YOUR CONTROL

Why it matters. Protect your work and transfer it without rebuilding profiles, portfolios and analyses from the beginning.

Local storage and controlled transfers.

Under the current architecture, operational portfolio and profile data is stored in the professional's browser, rather than in a dedicated BTi cloud repository for client records. Services required for prices and analysis may still process technical requests; this is not the same as centrally storing client portfolios.

Excel backup

Export locally stored portfolio management data and supported configurations to a file.

Restore from Excel or JSON

Reimport your backup to recover data and continue working.

Moving to a new computer

Transfer your work by exporting from the old device and importing onto the new one.

Available automatic backups

Use the recovery function for daily copies stored in the supported environment.

Privacy controls

The absence of bank login credentials and local storage of configurations reduce the exposure of sensitive information.

Responsibility for backups

Professionals should keep secure, up-to-date backups, particularly before changing browsers or computers.

Greater depth in every analysis. Greater control over every portfolio.

Start with constraints, build your allocation, compare alternatives, analyse real exposures and monitor assets and results over time. Not disconnected tools, but an integrated process for your everyday work.

BTi provides analysis and research tools, not personalised recommendations or guarantees of results. Calculations depend on data availability and model assumptions. Portfolios monitored without access to banking accounts are reconstructions based on user-provided data.
